From the Publisher
Search Press is the leading art and craft publisher in the UK. We specialize in producing beautiful and practical books on knitting, sewing, crocheting, needlecraft, textiles, painting and drawing, and general crafts for people of all skill levels. The company was founded in 1970, when Charlotte de la Bedoyere published her first book – Basket Weaving – in an attic room in Kensington. Translated from a German book, this was to be the first of many titles. The format was good, the thinking behind them simple, to publish small, reasonably priced books that were packed with practical information, offering crafters and needlecrafters new ideas and inspirational designs. Lotti, as she is known to everyone here at Search Press, went on include hot trends like pin and thread and candlemaking. The market loved them and so she continued, introducing full colour and a successful series of practical art books – the Leisure Arts.
In the early 1980s, Lotti moved to Tunbridge Wells, establishing a warehouse and offices in a quiet corner of the North Farm Industrial Estate – where we are today. She continued to publish an increasing range of popular books, developing new series and commissioning larger titles. Then in 1997, following her decision to retire, her son, Martin de la Bedoyere, took over as Managing Director, with his wife Caroline. Both with extensive publishing experience gained as directors at Heinemann, they continue to build on the strong traditions that Lotti had developed over 27 years.

Grow your own flowers in a rather different manner―knit them! Here are twenty flowers to create and twenty suggestions as to how to use them in this latest entry in the Twenty To Make series. This is an ideal book to buy if you (or the recipient) have not long since learned how to knit and are anxious to actually make something but nothing too large and daunting. These flowers grow quickly (pardon the pun) and only use the most basic of stitches, and so are ideal for anybody who wants to get used to following a pattern and to making something up. They are also great for anybody who has lots of oddments of yarn to finish up, or for inveterate buyers of odd balls of yarn in sales (i.e. most knitters). The flowers are lovely, and can be used as pins, corsages, and trimmings for hats and bags, while you are also allowed to make them to sell for charity. The flowers themselves cover all four seasons, although sadly there are no Christmas ones. Snowdrops, tulips, zinnias, cherry blossom, lilies, cosmos, poppies, chrysanthemums and more are covered so there is something for most other occasions. This is a fun book that is small enough to slip into your knitting bag and would make a great present.

Embellish knitted projects with the flowers inside this handy little book. There's a wonderful display of roses, daisies, lilies and more, all waiting for you to pick up your needles and bring them to life. Each pattern is presented across two pages, with a nice big picture of the finished flower. This will help when you're knitting, as you can see your work starting to resemble Susie's designs. All of the flowers can be knitted with scraps of yarn that you already have at home; use them to make brooches, embellish hats and bags, or make pretty hair accessories. This book will make a lovely gift for a friend who knits, or but it as a treat for yourself, especially if you've never knitted flowers before.

Make your own stash of knitted flowers and you'll have instant decorations for bags, clothes and all your accessories. Susie Johns' book shows you how, with 20 different floral patterns and clear step-by-step instructions. Susie's made sure most of the flowers are quick and easy to make, although some are slightly more difficult, so there's something here for everyone. For example, the daffodil and lily require you to knit in the round on double-pointed needles, while the Periwinkle and Sweet William are a little more challenging. All the flowers are ideal for using up oddments of yarn and make a great change in between knitting bigger projects, or when you just fancy a break.
― Simply KnittingFrom the Back Cover
This beautiful collection of knitted flowers designed by Susie Johns creates a wonderful floral display. There are roses, lilies, poppies, daisies, daffodils and more, so pick up your knitting needles and watch those flowers grow.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 April 2013these are quick, easy patterns for a lovely variety of flowers, Pity there's no leaves for the tulips but I found it very simple to create one based on the petal pattern and a bit of imagination. Require only small amounts of wool so you can use up all the odds and ends. I'd stopped knitting due to arthritis but can just manage these. Very satisfying - I'm giving them to all and sundry and spreading the happiness!

Diagrams are helpful. Pictures and book are in beautifully bright colours. Well set out. Reasonably priced and will be buying another as a gift for a friend at Christmas.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 December 2013Love knitting, love flowers, what more could I want from a book! Have used them as beautiful adornments for jumpers and can be used to customise any outfit you want. You can also make a wedding buttonhole that doesn't die! I have even used them in my scrapbooking. The ideas are endless. I would recommend it to anyone who has a little experience of knitting, or someone who wishes to knit with a difference.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 August 2010I find most knitting patterns look like algebra so this one came as a welcome relief! My first flower looked just like the one in the picture (shame I didn't use nicer wool but I wasn't very optimistic) and I am now going to go out and choose some lovely yarn to make the rest of them!!! I would definitely recommend this book if, like me, you are new to knitting and still getting to grips with all the terminology.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 October 2011I don't think this is a book for a beginner as some of the techniques are quite difficult e.g. knitting into every stitch can be a tricky one. Yes, it sounds easy, but when you've increased from 5 to 10, then 10 to 20, 20 to 40, it can be a bit of a struggle if you're not used to doing this sort of thing. Using a chunky yarn on a relatively fine needle (UK size 10) could also prove frustrating. Some of the instructions are incorrect, which again for a novice could be confusing. Fortunately I'm an experienced knitter, but some of the instructions had me laughing out loud....take the Poppy for instance...the materials list includes a "round button, 220mm (8 + 5/8")" I have never even seen a button measuring 8 + 5/8", and given the finished poppy apparently measures 4 + 3/4", wouldn't this be a tad large? Even 22mm is 7/8", so I reckon a novice would be completely confused by this. This is not the only error I've come across, so I think the proof reader (if one was employed at all) must either have been asleep, or not a knitter.
Some of the finished flowers are quite a bit a larger than I would want, even using the recommended yarn and needles.
Having said all that it is quite a useful little book, certainly for the price, but I doubt if I'll use it that often, and will probably look for something better.
